5 out of 5 stars Beautiful ease of use   July 7, 2009

Bravo to Genji Sports!

Fine, sturdy tent. I agree that it might be nice to have the back wall mesh with a nylon drop down to enable a choice between blocking the sun or getting a breeze, but I knew the design when I bought it.

I guess that Genji must be worried about the "throw open" type tents, because their attention to the user is fantastic. First, there is a video on the tent available on YouTube (link in the product description). The video convinced me to buy the tent, which is well worth the price. Second, the opening and closing instructions are sewn into the carrying bag, so they won't be lost.

Even my wife, the bane of all things mechanical or electrical, was able to set up and take down this thing. Great job Genji!

5 out of 5 stars A back-saver tent!   July 29, 2009

We've had a "connect-the-poles-and-slide-'em-through-the-holes" kind of tent for years. It served us for many years, but was often difficult to get the poles through. I'm now a lot older and needed a tent for the beach that was much easier to set up. I spent hours researching the different tents, and decided this tent was the best value for the money. I wasn't sure I'd be able to set it up as easily as the video, but I thought it was worth a try.

When I got it I set it up in the driveway. It was very stiff to pop it up the first time. After that it was a breeze. I'm saying this with confidence, as I have a pretty useless "frozen shoulder" at the moment, and even *I* could get the tent up easily!

It's a breeze to carry too. So light! My only wish for the carrying is that they'd make the handle an "over-the-shoulder" handle. So, often it would get shoved in another larger beach bag to carry it.

Design on this is great; it really does unfold and set up fast and then folds back down and rolls up quickly. The first tent I've ever owned that you can get back in the original case! As another reviewer said, I would wish for roll-down sides to block the sun, as I wish to have the open part face the ocean! Of course, I knew the design prior to purchasing, so what we did was bring two laundry clips and we clipped one of the kid's towels on the side (dual function - drying the towel and blocking the sun!). It went to the beach with me every day for a week as I am very fair and burn easily...but I like hanging on the beach reading.

I give this very high marks all the way around.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Pop-Up   August 12, 2009

Moving to Florida we didn't realize how much shade is needed at the beach. It certainly is not like the beaches on Long Island. I purchased this tent to offer some shade to my nieces as well as my dog when we go to the beach. The tent sets up in less than a minute and take down is just as fast. I do not need any stakes with this tent because the manufacturer added pockets at each corner outside of the tent to put sand in which weighs the tent down. I actually have not even had to use the pockets because I just place my cooler in one corner and my beach bag in the opposite corner and the tent just sits there. I get so many compliments on this tent it is unbelievable. The only negative thing I can say about this tent is that the flooring on it is a dark blue and therefore it gets VERY hot VERY quickly, so I make sure I bring a white sheet with me in order to keep the floor from buring up. I think the floor should be a light color or maybe silver to reflect the sunlight from it but other than that I have no issues with this pop-up. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Clearwater beach charges 20-25 dollars to rent something similar to this tent, so for the money you are better off buying this and using it each time you go to the beach. Oh I forgot.....this tent is SOOOO light, it is lighter than carrying my small beach chair. Unbelieavable! Just practice putting it up and taking it down once in your house before bringing it to the beach. You will be a pro after one attempt.

5 out of 5 stars Great Study Tent   June 7, 2009

I really like this tent since it's a little studier than the tents you throw into the air to open. It is still incredibly easy to set up though since you just pull apart the lock on the top (so it's just one step instead of zero). The lock also appears to provide a little bit of triangulation which may be why it's studier. It seems pretty well made too.

5 out of 5 stars Worked nicely!   August 29, 2009

I purchased this for trip to Michigan, using it on the beach many times. I tried setup and takedown before the trip to ensure I had some experience using the product. On the beach it was setup in 2 minutes or less including staking into the ground. When it is windy make sure you hold on to it well or it will become a kite. Takedown was easy and was stored back in the carry bag with minimal effort.

On setup, ensure that all the legs are free of the material otherwise the legs will not open completely. If they are hung up and you force it I think the legs may break. The stakes worked well in damp samp and I did not use the bags which are nice if you use it on a dry, loose sand area. The mesh side let alot of air flow through so the unit did not become hot in the direct sun. A nice touch is the instructions sewn on the carry bag. Once you use it you will not need them but I may forget after a long period of storage.

I have fond memories of my daughters playing and napping in the shelter on the beach.
